Our Engagement Story

August 23, 2025

We got engaged at Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, GA. What started as a rainy weekend getaway turned into the most joyful surprise. That Saturday morning, Reid flew us down to St. Simons Island just after sunrise, determined to make the trip happen despite a stormy forecast. Watching the sun come up from the plane window made the early wake-up call worth it, even as rain showers followed us once we landed. After a day of dodging storms, we decided to take a walk on the beach before dinner. As we wandered along the shoreline, we passed a family cheering for a couple who had just gotten engaged. Allison teased Reid, saying that if he had the ring, that could have been us. She was confident he didn’t have it yet—after all, she had asked earlier that week, and Reid (who usually can’t lie to save his life) had said no. Not long after, a group who introduced themselves as a “photography class” asked if we’d be willing to pose while they practiced camera settings. We laughed our way through a few poses, both of us still convinced it was just a funny coincidence. But then, as they set us up for one last shot, the photographer said, “Allison, Reid’s doing something really cute behind you.” Allison turned around to see Reid down on one knee, ring in hand, smiling up at her. Shock, tears, and laughter all hit at once—but she managed to say yes! The “class” wasn’t a class at all, but a surprise engagement shoot Reid had planned just for us. We celebrated by calling our families from the beach, sharing the news with friends, and finally realizing it was so late that every restaurant was closed. Our first meal as an engaged couple was Domino’s pizza—and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
