March 2020. My office has announced we will be shifting to remote work effective immediately. I assume I'll be gone for 2 weeks max. No need to throw out the snacks I've been hoarding in my desk drawer. This all feels overblown. Cut to a few days later...rumor has it states might close their borders. Freaked out by the thought of being trapped alone in my 1-bedroom apartment in Hollywood, I pack up my car with Riley and drive all the way to Oregon in one day to stay with my parents. I suddenly have a lot of free time and the world feels like it's ending...so I do what anyone would do and re-download the dating app Hinge. Meanwhile, Forrest also has too much time on his hands living alone in Valley Village so he signs up for a dating app: Hinge. He sees the profile of a blonde girl with red lipstick who likes French fries. He offers to buy her some. That girl is me. And I accept his offer. But I'm now in a different state. So we schedule a FaceTime date, and it's not weird! It's actually fun. And flirty. And ok a little weird because I'm in my parent's guest room. But we hit it off and talk for hours. And after that night we keep talking. Friday becomes our standing FaceTime date night. We mix it up by ordering delivery food for one another, playing our favorite songs, and watching movies. After 6 weeks, I decide it's time to venture back to LA. I'm so nervous and excited to finally meet this person IRL. Restaurants and bars are closed so I take the risk to meet at his place for Thai take out. I'm pretty certain he's not a murderer. I bring Riley just in case. I walk inside his place and he embraces me in a hug and we kiss. And it's not weird. It's awesome. Four years later...this Hinge couple is getting married!
