Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

Grand Rapids, MI - 15 minutes from Wedding Venue & Hotel Accommodations Gerald R. Ford International Airport 5500 44th St SE Grand Rapids, MI 49512 Detroit, MI - 2 hours from Venue & Hotel Accommodations Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport 11050 W. G. Rogell Dr. Detroit, MI 48242

Question

Transportation

Answer

If you are flying in for our big day the Grand Rapids airport is about 10 miles (15-20 minutes) from the downtown hotels, you're welcome to use transportation services such as uber, lyft etc or rent a car. If you are driving to our wedding there is parking available at the hotel with a daily rate fee. Wedding Day Parking -There is not a shuttle to take you from the downtown hotels to the venue and vice versa. It is a 6 mile (12-15 minute) drive between the two locations. -Parking is complimentary at Fredrick Meijer Garden. Our wedding is starting before they close to the public at 5pm so there may be a lot of cars when you first arrive however there should be plenty of space to park. -If you drive to the wedding and have too much fun at the reception you can leave your vehicle there overnight and take a lyft, uber or other means to get back to the hotel.

Question

Where do I stay?

Answer

We have hotel rooms blocked at the JW Marriott and Courtyard Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids. We do recommend reserving these early as it's first come first serve for the discounted wedding rate. There are also plenty of other hotels and Airbnb/VRBO options if you prefer something different.

Question

Do I have to wear traditional Indian Attire

Answer

We want you to feel comfortable and have a great time! If you're more comfortable in western vs indian clothing or vice versa wear whatever option makes you happy.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

We encourage Indian attire (because when else do you get to wear these beautiful styles?!). However, we want you to be comfortable, so if that's not your thing it's all good! We recommend traditional western attire (suite & tie/cocktail attire, not cowboy boots and a lasso). Some traditional Indian styles are: Woman: -Lehengas: Three piece outfit consisting of a skirt, blouse/top, and a scarf (dupatta). There are some times options of heavy vs light. Heavy will be a fuller/heavier skirt. Light will be a less puffy and lighter weight skirt. -Saree: Traditionally this is one piece of fabric that wraps around like a skirt then crosses over your body/shoulder, a separate top will need to be worn in addition to the Saree. -Saree/Lehenga: This is the best of both dresses! -Salwar Kameez: This is more of a pant suit style. They come in a variety of options. Not usually worn at Weddings, but if this is what you're comfortable get what feels comfy! You will see these more at ceremonies like a Mehendi. Men: Kurtas: A loose-fitting, collarless tunic worn with pants. Usually bought as a set Sherwanis: A long, coat-like garment (usually about knee length) worn with pants. Usually bought as a set.

Question

Where do I find Indian dress clothes?

Answer

If you live in an area that has Indian attire stores I would recommend that. However, there are great online options! Some websites have ready to ship items with a custom fitted options, which is nice to get a better fit (especially for women's tops). If there isn't custom options I recommend you purchase a top a little bigger then have it altered. Most of the sites ship from India, be mindful to leave yourself 4-6 weeks shipping time to ensure the item arrives in time for the wedding!
