How We Met

University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point

Jon and Allison both attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Allison was majoring in Athletic Training and Jon was majoring in Health Promotion, which resulted in being in many of the same classes together. Allison remembered thinking Jon was loud, annoying and just another football jock because of the Kimberly and Stevens Point football shirts he wore. After Jon sustained a career ending knee injury in September 2013, he became a regular in the athletic training room. He remembered Allison as being stuck up and never wanting to work with him. In the spring of 2014, Jon decided to approach Allison at bar in downtown Stevens Point. He originally tried setting her up with his friend, which she quickly turned down. The next night, in the same bar, Jon approached Allison again and was determined to get to know this girl. They ended up talking the rest of the night with each other and haven't stopped since.

Proposal

Sentry World, Stevens Point, WI

In June 2017, Allison was finishing her graduate assistantship in St. Peter, MN. She was home the first weekend in June for a wedding and then had to return to Minnesota for a few days. Since the wedding was in Wausau, Allison thought it would be fun to golf at Sentry World in Stevens Point before she had to head back. Jon thought that would be a great idea and contacted his friend Nick to ask if he would like to join us. Jon booked the tee time for 4:00pm on that Sunday. When Jon told Allison this, she was upset because she did not want to drive back to Minnesota that late at night. She demanded the tee time be moved up to at least 12:00pm or she wasn't going. Scrambling and extremely frustrated, Jon was able to move up the tee time to 12:30pm. "If she only knew what this was for!" -Jon. Jon and Allison stayed at Nick's house in Stevens Point after the wedding. Allison was definitely feeling the effects of the free spotted cow and dancing from the night before, which left her very unaware of what was about to come. Allison noticed nothing out of the ordinary during the first 9 holes, except for Nick constantly talking to the beverage cart girl. (He was trying to get champagne.) As we approached the 16th hole, the gorgeous flower hole that the course is known for, Allison was extremely excited because it was a par 3, 150 feet, an easy hole for her! Extremely focused, she didn't noticed how quickly Jon's and Nick's golf game changed from great, to terrible. After she sunk her putt, Jon grabbed her and began his proposal speech. Instantly Allison knew what was coming and began sobbing because of happy she was to spend the rest of her life with Jon, but how terrible she felt for what she put him through. They finished the round, took some celebratory shots and shared the amazing news with family and friends.
