Jesse met Allison in 2016 at a party in his West Village apartment. She was as usual, surrounded by her cadre of beautiful friends, but he quickly realized she stood out among the rest. It was loud and late when his ears perked up at the mention of put options. Not the most romantic or engaging two words, but none that he expected to overhear from his living room at the time; and enough to pull his attention from a now poorly mixed vodka soda to the girl who would quickly change from being the life of the party to his party of life. Allison would notice Jesse a few weeks later. After living in separate apartments dotting lower Manhattan for 2 years they decided it was time to venture across the east river, and not to a warehouse this time, but instead to make a home together in Brooklyn. Having allowed enough time for the stress of moving to pass, yet not enough time for Allison to realize she might have made a mistake in her change of roommates, Jesse knew the moment was at hand to ask his partner in life to be his partner for life. An early August vacation to Nantucket had by now become a cherished tradition for them. Jesse always knew it was here, that he should propose. However, as they say, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Jesse has an unfortunate habit of arriving late. Today was not one of those days and the room was not ready upon their arrival. So what better to occupy their time than a walk along the beach? Panicking, not wanting to let the ring out of his sight, Jesse slipped it into his bathing suit pocket. The water would be cold and they wouldn’t be swimming anyway. “Let’s go swimming!” Allie said. She knows Jesse very, very well. No lie or excuse could have gotten him out of this predicament. So realizing it didn’t matter where or when the moment happened, only that it did and that he would have all the moments the rest of his life with her, he got on a knee.
