How We Met

They say you meet your soulmate three times before you find each other.

Allison and Jeffrey met for the first time at sleep away camp when they were ten years old. They both didn't really hang out with the opposite sex much so they barely knew each other. Fast forward to the year 2016 and they met for the second time on good old JSwipe. After talking for a while, they finally went on their first date to Session 73. (A staple on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.) Of course it was December and there was a company holiday party that rented out the entire bar, so they had to quickly change plans. Allison made the suggestion to go to The Pony Bar which was two blocks up the street. After several drinks (the last one being on the house since the bartender was feeling their connection!) and hours of talking later, Jeff decided to walk Allison home. It was raining and they shared a nice kiss in the rain. They continued to go on dates and talk all the time. After about two months of dating, the couple realized their connection was strong but didn't know if they were ready for the commitment. Well third time's a charm! For almost two years, Allison and Jeffrey still talked and hung out regularly. Allison always thought they were 'just friends'. They even bonded over exchanging horror dating stories. Finally, in August 2018, Jeffrey realized that he knew Allison was 'the one' all along. When he asked her on a fancy date to a steakhouse she said no because she thought that was crossing the line. They were just friends after all. Jeffrey told her that he planned this special dinner because he wanted to date her for real this time. And as the saying goes- the rest is history. "It was always you" is their true love story.

The Proposal (Part 1)

It was always you.

In March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Allison and Jeffrey had just moved into their new NYC apartment. With the future being so uncertain, Allison had no idea the proposal was coming any time soon. She assumed it would happen when things opened up and calmed down. For Memorial Day Weekend, Jeffrey and Allison planned their first quarantine getaway to Long Beach Island, NJ to stay at Allison's uncle's house. With many of their go-to LBI restaurants closed, Jeffrey found a new lobster roll place. On May 30, 2020, They got take out, and Jeffrey suggested they eat on a bench by the bay and watch the sunset. As soon as they sat down, it was so buggy and miserable Allison wouldn't stop complaining. About halfway through dinner, Jeffrey couldn't take the bugs anymore either and told Allison to pack up the food and they will eat the rest at the house. As she was packing up, Jeffrey got down on one knee. When she turned around he was playing their favorite song "Simply the Best" (the Schitt's Creek version- obviously). Allison was shocked because she had no idea Jeffrey got a ring in the middle of the pandemic. Her first words were "What is that? What are you doing? You didn't buy a ring!" But of course she said yes! Jeffrey informed her that it was a "fake" ring from Amazon. Jeff didn't want to wait any longer to be engaged, so he got her a temporary ring until he could meet with a jeweler and get her the real deal. No one knew how long the pandemic would last, and the couple was ready to move forward and take their relationship to the next step. They will always remember that they got engaged in the middle of a pandemic when the world was shutdown. They celebrated by FaceTiming friends and family after eating lobster rolls and doughnuts. It was the most perfect and romantic #QuaratineEngagement.

The Proposal (Part 2)

So nice he proposed twice.

On August 23, 2020, Jeffrey asked Allison to have breakfast on their rooftop. They went upstairs and found a place to eat. There was no one up there (so they thought) so it was easy to find an empty table. They started eating when Allison noticed a bluetooth speaker playing loud music at the table across from them. “Who would leave all their stuff with the music playing so loudly?” She thought. Allison didn’t think much of it and continued to eat her breakfast. Then, a song came on that Jeff couldn’t stand so he asked Allison to go turn it off. She got up to turn off the speaker, and then their song “Simply the Best” came on and she knew that Jeffrey had something else up his sleeve. When Allison turned around, AGAIN, Jeff was down on his knee, AGAIN! This time he had the perfect ring- a beautiful, sparkly diamond! Jeffrey asked Allison to marry her and she said yes AGAIN! Their friends Evan and Katie were taking pictures and videos of the entire second proposal. A few minutes later, their parents and siblings surprised them. They had a nice lunch catered from Sarge’s deli on their roof with their families. In May, when Jeff proposed the first time, it was during the peak of the Coronavirus outbreak so they celebrated just the two of them. It was so special to be able to celebrate in person with their loved ones in August. #HappilyEllerAfter
