How We Met

As Told By Allison

In September of 2011 I practically ran into a training room (a hot mess of course.) I was so sick. I put down my 2 bags and my millions of papers and threw myself into my assigned seat. I was training to become an assistant manager. My facilitator started the class and numbered all of the attendee's off to be in groups of three's. David and I were put into a group together, the only group of two. We were told to draw a venn diagram with what we felt we excelled at and what we felt we needed to learn. David and I occupied our time talking about everything else other than what we needed to work on together. During our four weeks of training at our job, we spent some time getting to know each other more. After graduation we would talk and go out together, even with as complicated as it was with the distance between us. After months of casually dating we decided to discuss having our kids meet each other. Our first adventure out together was at Legoland, and the kids hit it off! The rest is history. We make being a blended family work, and have been able to overcome many obstacles. I am so grateful to have such an understanding partner that is always in my corner.

How He Asked

David bought the ring a few years ago. When we moved into our current home, he hid it in our kitchen! In November he started to look for a new, eco friendly car to buy me for Christmas to surprise me. I had been spending months driving our unpredictable, unreliable car. He decided to propose when he gave me the car at my parent's house on Christmas. We had an amazing Christmas morning with our kids. It was so wonderful spending that time together, and seeing their eyes light up. We went to my parent's for Christmas dinner, and the annual Blaese Christmas. The entire night David ignored me! I couldn't understand what why he kept avoiding me in all social situations. All of the presents were handed out and opened and our "Santa" found one last small box and handed it to me. Inside the box there was a key! Everyone followed me outside and there was our new Prius! I sat in the drivers seat of the car and David and my mom told me to look at all of the compartments. I started opening up everything and went to the center console and inside of there was a blue box! I couldn't believe it. I opened the box and looked over at David and he was down on one knee. I did not expect any of it and I was completely caught off guard. David did a ton of planning to make sure it was a magical moment. It was so wonderful being surrounded by so many family members, and really topped off our over the top Christmas.
