The first time Allison told me she loved me was in 2020 and because we couldn't see each other every day like we had grown accustomed to in an office we would talk on the phone every night while we went on these walks through our respective neighborhoods. We were talking about family and what the concept of family means to us and she said in the most casual manner "..and of course you know I love you". Allison has a way of grounding me back to reality with a single sentence that no other person can do. Until then I had been so caught up with what was happening in the world that I hadn't yet stopped to think about what had been happening in my life. Without knowing it I had been building something that has made me unfathomably happy. I'm so excited to experience the rest of our lives together and I'll always say back to her in the most casual manner "I Love You".
A few days prior to Brent took TJ to Little Cottonwood Canyon to scout the perfect location for the Proposal. They looked at a few spots and ultimately found their way to an opening that was just right. TJ and Brent successfully kept the secret from me! On Sunday, October 16th Brent recreated the very first date that we went on. Our first stop was to get coffee at Salt Lake Coffee break, this location was what set the stage for the start of our relationship. It was here where Brent took a leap of faith and told me that he would regret the moment if he never told me that he liked me. My girlfriends will attest to the fact that for MONTHS prior to this I was adamant that we were just friends, they said the smile on my face anytime I spoke about him told them otherwise. The second stop we made that day was to Jinya to recreate the time back in 2019, when we joined my sister Elizabeth, and her (now) Fiancé Jake to grab some dinner at Jinya. We were just going as co-workers that both happen to like Ramen. I continued to tell myself and my friends that it was not a date. I even took the fake eyelashes off to prove it! After we ate (Brent hardly touched his Ramen, which should have been a giveaway) we drove up Little Cottonwood Canyon to see the colors of the trees. I didn't know that Brent had coordinated with his Mom (Kirsten) to be there to take photos of the proposal, and he had coordinated with my Mom (Julie) to bring TJ up the canyon and be part of it. We took a small walk on the hill to an opening where we stopped walking and Brent started talking to me about our life together, and when he got on his knee he asked TJ to come out with the ring. I was surprised and fell in love with Brent all over again knowing he included TJ in the moment. It's his thoughtfulness that will forever be my favorite.
