How We Met

or should we say, How I Met Your Mother?

I met Alex's mom, Kathy in 2013. I was visiting my family who had moved to Colorado. My mom had told me so much about this wonderful friend she had connected with through work. Kathy King was described to me as funny and welcoming. She was hosting a birthday party at her home on La Tour and my mom wanted to take me over to see her new kitchen before everyone arrived. Kathy wasn't home, but had told us to just go inside and wait for her. Kathy walked in the house and came to meet me and we were immediately enamored with one another. Not only was she funny, welcoming, and so much fun - she was hilarious, she embraced me, and I knew I loved her right then. I surely did not know I would be falling in love with her son two years later. She had shown me a picture of Alex; it was his high school football picture and he was wearing sandals... Haha. Mom and Kathy joked, "How funny would it be if our kids dated?" I think about that day often, but so much has happened since then! Alex met my mom, also Cathy, about a year later while I was still living in Arizona. She reminded me how cute he was and was really excited for us to meet. I won't lie to you all, I was not interested in the idea of my mom setting me up. But I have to say, Alex and I are so lucky to have our moms to thank for leading us to one another. Our mom's birthday's are a day apart, they are great friends, our families are so well blended. Alex and I met when I finally moved to Colorado for good. Before that, for about 3 months, we became best friends. Alex added me on Facebook and I sent him a message. We exchanged phone numbers and started talking every day. I would call him on my way home from work, and he would text me good morning first thing each day. In 2015, I drove 13 hours to Colorado on his birthday and we went on our first date. Now, we have a fur family with 4 dogs and 3 cats, and a beautiful life together. We are so blessed and will be forever grateful to our beautiful mothers.

How I Proposed

February 14, 2017

We had been together about 2 years at this point and I still could not believe it was our moms that had gotten us together. I remember thinking how nervous I was driving to our favorite restaurant, Shugas, with my great grandmother’s ring in my pocket. Alli had been sick for about two weeks prior and brought up how sweaty my hands were and hoped I wasn’t sick too; only me knowing it was definitely not because I was sick. We had an amazing dinner there, as usual, and started walking to the car. Right outside of the restaurant I got down on one knee and asked Alli to marry me and nothing has made me happier in my life than her answer. Our life together has just started and I can not wait to spend the rest of it together.
