This love story might have been unlikely, but good things come for those who wait. We initially met at ACU Swing Cats. A swing dancing club at the university. Allie remembers Vicente only because he was the only tall, dark, and handsome man in the room. It wasn't love at first dance unfortunately. Allie was about to graduate with her nursing degree and had plans to move back to the metroplex. While Vicente was a sophomore about to get knee deep in his engineering classes. It wasn't until a year of so later they were reacquainted through mutual friends. Vicente was finishing up his engineering degree at ACU and Allie was working nights as a nurse at the local hospital. Allie's roommate, Riley reintroduced them. For over a year they hung out, went on dance outings, and took road trips to Arkansas and the beach with friends. A year later, on a Tuesday night, while they were watching a Friends episode, Vicente made the first move and reached for her hand. They went out on a date that Friday night, had dinner in Abilene, went to dance to Oplin Dancehall, and concluded the evening sitting at a bench in Nelson Park that overlooked the lake. Vicente said “I love you” first, while they were on a walk around Lake Abilene. To his surprise, Allie replied, “Why do you love me?” They were reading the same book, but Vicente was a few pages ahead. A few months later, Allie expressed the same feeling to Vicente in a written letter. Almost four years later, we have visited family all over the world, traveled together, danced together and now we are going to be tying the knot!
