We met at Gilroys, a popular Des Moines brunch spot, for a late dinner. After ordering some drinks, it didn't take long for Chris to begin unraveling his life story. As he does, he made sure to fill in every semi-relevant detail with ample context and winding subplots. Meanwhile, Allie, fresh on the rebound from COVID, sipped her tasteless cabernet sauvignon, while listening closely to the escapade of living out of a Prius. It was that moment that she pondered to herself... "Seems like every day is going to be interesting with this guy." A bond was created over our experiences with spontaneous travel, living in Chicago and our love for 90's & 00's hip hop and R&B. As the wine dwindled over fervid storytelling and conversation, Allie began to embrace the fact that Chris would never actually finish his story.
We met at Eatery A around 6:00pm, had some pizza, two bottles of wine and after six hours we ended up shutting the place down without even realizing the time...or getting bleacher butt. From then on, we both felt that there was something truly unique between us.
Chris moved into Allie's house in Waveland Park, closer to the beating heart of Des Moines. Later that summer, Chris and Allie arranged for their parents to meet at the historic Flying Mango and celebrate the joining of their houses.
On the last day of an unforgettable trip to celebrate the wedding of two friends in Costa Rica, Chris proposed to Allie during a private dinner in the jungle. (She said yes!)
Chris and Allie have been enjoying their life together, along with their two cats, Theo and Pipa.
