How We Met

It's crazy looking back knowing that someone you met when you were in 8th grade through mutual friends (Clay was a Sophomore in high school so I thought I was cool) would eventually end up being your HUSBAND. It just took 8+ years to realize that before we started dating ;)

The Proposal

September 21, 2019 started out just like any other home Pirate football game-day. You wake up excited and can't get to the tailgate fast enough! Clay is like my dad, ECU first and then everything else comes after. LOL wish I was kidding! At the tailgate I could just tell something felt different about this day. Clay looking like he was about to throw up the whole tailgate probably should have given it away, haha! Even then I still didn't think he would do something like this in front of a ton of people. Bless his sweet soul, even Spare Change was playing in front of our tailgate causing not only our friends and family to congregate but also strangers passing by! The band went on a quick break and Clay came up to me and said "I have to go to the bathroom." At this point he REALLY looked like he was going to be sick and I'm thinking what the heck is wrong with this guy. Thanks for letting me know you have to go to the bathroom? Haha TMI! Afterwards he beelined to me and immediately asked to take a picture together specifically with the stadium in the background. We took some pics then he asked me to go look and see if I liked any of them or if we needed to retake (you know how us girls are about pictures). I was headed back to him to retake the picture and then I noticed everyone crowded around us had taken out their own phones to take our picture also. So now I'm thinking WHY IN THE WORLD do people care that we are taking a picture together?! Everything then just began to click. A friend of my parents that does professional photography was even hanging out at the tailgate if that wasn't also a big hint. It was the best celebration after! Hugs, tears followed by laughter, champagne bottles popping and a shout out from the band! Truly the best day... until October 24th, 2020!
