Things To Do
1. Go to the beach (Siesta Key and/or Lido Key)
A real Florida-man would never go in the frigid winter waters, that's for Canadians!
2. Explore the Ringling (The best non-beach option)
Of course the richest Florida-man made his money from the circus. He died penniless, but left behind an epic mansion, some solid museums, and, as is tradition, a bunch of peacocks.
3. Wake up and smell the roses at the Selby Botanical Garden
Last year on it's 50th anniversary, the Selby was ranked as one of the World's Greatest Places by Time Magazine! Cool, but I was named Time's Person of the Year in 2006.
4. Check out St. Armands Circle and Downtown
Great walkable retail areas, but, alas, you'll have to pay for donuts and pho. IYKYK.
5. For the international crowd: Disney & Universal Theme Parks
They're both in Orlando, which is a 2 hour drive from Sarasota. Definitely fly in/out of MCO (Orlando's airport) in you're planning on visiting.
