They say 3% of couples meet at weddings... consider us in that 3%! My goal at Logan and Annie's wedding was to meet someone to share some dances and some laughs with; I didn't plan on meeting my future wife... I was sitting in-between my friends Lindsay and Pat, aka my wing people, in hopes they would help me find the girl I would win over with my moves and charm. Thirty seconds before Annie is about to walk down the aisle, I see the most beautiful woman I've ever seen scamper, because she was late, to find her seat with the Kamphaus family. My jaw dropped, I lean over to Lindsay and tell her thats the one... she's the girl. We get to the reception, she's a table away but sitting with Lindsay thankfully. At first, we think she's with someone, who we later find out is her best friend Kyle. I approach Kyle later in the evening and ask his permission to use what is left of the night to dance the night away with this girl. He gives me the green light so I approach and give her a solid cheesy pickup line: "I noticed your dancing all night and you're the only girl that can keep up with me. Can I have this dance?" I fell in love instantly and danced with Alli until the lights came on. And to cap the most romantic love story of all time, we ended the night at Skyline eating cheese coneys. THE END! Or the beginning to our beautiful future together as husband and wife!
I hadn't golfed a lot that year and we had a scheduled scramble tournament for that next weekend so Drew decided to schedule a round of 9 holes. He told me to wear my blue golf shirt.. he said that that was his favorite one so I ran with it (thinking nothing of it). If you know me at all, you know I'm competitive and can get preeetttttty in my head when I'm not playing well. We get paired with two other guys, so the stakes were high to not look like a complete dingus on the course. I started out playing well, which was awesome! The later half of the round my skills started to fall fast... and my excitement and optimism fell with it. Drew, being equally as competitive, was surprisingly optimistic and I kept thinking...hmmm, that's strange but loved every minute of it. As we hit up onto the green, the guys we were paired up with told us to continue on and finish up because they needed to look for one of their balls in the rough. We had enjoyed playing with them and I would hate if we finished up without them so I kept yelling back "no it's okay! We'll wait!" Drew had different plans as he kept telling me, "it's fine, don't worry about it, just putt your ball". There was a third ball on the green and I kept thinking... why are they looking for their ball when one of them is right here! After I got my ball out of the cup, Drew asked "hey, remember that Avett Brothers lyric that says 'there's no greater love than the love that let us share our last name'?" I replied "yes...why?" (really having absolutely no idea where he was going with that and what it had to do with our two new teammates trying to find their ball... Before I knew it, he was on one knee and said "I'd love if you shared my last name with me; will you marry me?" My heart and stomach dropped. I looked out to the clubhouse and saw all of our family and friends running out to greet us. That was the fastest I've ever thrown my golf glove off! And the best YES to the best question I've ever been asked.
