How We Met

We met on the 33rd floor of the Indianapolis J.W. Marriott. We were attending the 2017 Cru Winter Conference and had both randomly decided to see the view of Indy from the 33rd floor. Devin awkwardly inserted himself in the middle of my roommate and I's conversation and proceeded to carry on small talk. Devin thought I was a senior who was engaged, but I was actually a freshman who was oblivious that this guy was into me. We went our ways thinking that it was unlikely that we would see each other again at such a large conference. Devin's friends from Purdue ran into my roommates from the University of Indianapolis on the way to an evening session. When I arrived at the session, I was bombarded by Purdue girls asking me if I remembered Devin from the 33rd floor and if I would give them my number. With hesitancy, I gave them my number. Devin and I hung out at the conference, and stayed up until 5 a.m. talking after a New Year's Eve party. Devin had clear intentions from the beginning that he wanted to make distance work and pursue a relationship. We had our first date on January 6th, 2018 at Applebee's, a week after Winter Conference, and Devin asked me to be his girlfriend. We dated for two years and did make the distance work.

The Proposal

We had a fancy date in downtown Indy planned for our two-year anniversary. We spent the day playing games at Dave & Buster's and then had a fancy dinner at The Eagle's Nest. We had talked about stopping by the J.W. Marriott to see if we could get to the 33rd floor where we met. Devin already had an elevator key waiting for us at the J.W. After dinner, we met our friends at the J.W. Marriott and went up to the 33rd floor. We went to have our picture taken at the window where we met and Devin popped the question. It was a dream! and the best day ever!!

COVID Update

We are staying up to date on the current COVID situation and are taking measures to keep everyone healthy. There will be masks available to wear during the ceremony and everyone will receive a mask at the reception to wear while going through the line to receive dinner. We are asking that everyone please wear a mask while getting dinner to keep the food line sanitary and to protect the servers. We will also provide plenty of hand sanitizer. We are working to limit the transmission, but with that being said, we know that we cannot stop all transmission due to the inability to keep everyone 6 feet apart while dancing and keep tables apart. We want to be transparent that there is the potential for transmission when there is a large crowd under one roof, and we understand if anyone is uncomfortable attending the ceremony or reception. We are so thankful to have the love and support from so many people and want everyone to stay healthy and safe!
