HER SIDE

HOW THEY MET

Those of you that have known me for any amount of time, know that I couldn't wait to get to Austin, Texas. After college, I decided to play it smart and live at home for a year to save up some money for the big move. I walked into a job interview and immediately hit it off with the woman interviewing me. They moved to Montgomery, Alabama from Lubbock, Texas and had lived in Austin before that. Toward the end of my interview she pulls up a picture on her phone and says, "I just have to introduce you to my son." A couple of weeks later, he came into the office and immediately won me over with his southern charm. He asked me to have dinner with him that Friday night, and I could not say no. We went to El Ray, a small Tex-Mex restaurant in Montgomery, and sat at one of their outdoor patio tables. The weather was perfect. We sat and talked for six hours, and would have probably stayed much longer if I hadn't turned around to realize the restaurant was totally closed!

HIS SIDE

HOW THEY MET

I'm originally from Austin. I grew up in a suburb just outside of the city called Cedar Park. I moved to Alabama on a whim. I'd only been there about two months, when my mom called me on her way home from work one day. She had interviewed this "incredible girl" that I just had to meet. I didn't think too much about it. A few weeks later, I was having a really bad day. I was just about to pack up my stuff and hit the road back to Texas, but I decided to meet my mom at the office and take her to lunch. When I walked in, she introduced to me to her assistant. She was beautiful. My day was instantly better. That night, I got her number from my mom and called her. She mentioned this Mustaches for Kids fundraiser that her friend was hosting. It was a month-long event with weekly events to check in. It started the next week, but I couldn't wait that long. So I took her to dinner and we talked until well after the restaurant had closed.

HOW HE ASKED

12.14.16 | ZILKER PARK | AUSTIN TRAIL OF LIGHTS

Christmas is my favorite time of year, and walking around oogling all of the lights is one of my most favorite traditions. In Austin we have an annual light trail, the Zilker Park Trail of Lights. Zack and I had been trying to find a date to go, but life just kept in the way. You know how it does that sometimes.   Zack's cousins asked us to join them one night and we didn't think twice. Zack had dropped some "subtle" hints about having my nails and hair done, so I knew something was up. Except my estimation was off — way off — and neither of those things were done. When we got to the end of the trail around 11 p.m., I started running for the pedi-cabs. Zack said, "Why don't we go look at the big light tree."  It was so out of character for him.   We stood under the 155-foot tall tree, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. How could I say no?
