The year was 2020, when social distancing happened to be a part of life, Allen and Kalila found a way to close the distance. At the time, Kalila was living in Bend and Allen was in Eugene. Kalila had planned a trip to Bali that October, however unforeseen circumstances cancelled her flights and she ended up coming back to Eugene for a friends birthday. That very same Saturday evening is when Allen decided to contact her. They chatted for the rest of that evening and into the next morning. By the time that Allen had asked Kalila to meet up in person, she was already back in Bend. The next few days were comprised of very long phone calls, just enjoying each others stories. The original plan was to meet up in Bend and play golf that weekend, but Wednesday came around and Allen decided he didn't want to wait anymore. So he contacted Kalila, stating that he was able to meet her that afternoon, if she was able. Kalila wasn't sure as she didn't have anything other than her work clothes to meet him in. He made it very simple... "Do you want to see me, yes or no?" Given her options, her answer was easy! YES! They met at Suttle Lake and the rest is history! 4.5 years later that same place from their first date is where Allen asked Kalila to marry him!
