Derek and Kathryn met for the very first time in 7th grade gym class, all the way back in 2004. Both being incredibly and awkwardly tall, they were paired together as square dancing partners. After giddy-laughing and pretending like they didn't have a juvenile crush on each other, they parted ways for what would be almost 11 full years. Being involved in different sports, and attending different colleges, neither Kathryn nor Derek ever crossed paths. Fast forward to February of 2015, K + D had both just moved home after graduating college. Derek, with a construction management degree, and Kathryn, with an architecture degree. They were both celebrating different events on the night they finally crossed paths again. Although Durty Nellie's was not the place for square dancing, they spent evening reminiscing and dancing their own version. They went their separate ways that night, and kept in touch over the next couple weeks as Derek traveled to New York for work. On March 7, 2015, K + D decided to brave the melting snow and take the snowmobiles out for their very first date. They rode the Fox River, and it was an instant connection. From that day forward, they never looked back. Officially, after spending every possible moment together, Derek asked Kathryn to be his girlfriend on April 15. In February of 2018, Kathryn and Derek were prepping to purchase their second home together, in Wisconsin. When they went up for their last showing, they hit the Wisconsin River on the snowmobiles, where Derek got down on one knee and asked Kathryn to continue their journey forever! - We are so thrilled to invite all the people we love to our new home in Wisconsin, where we will share the life we've built so far and celebrate the life we intend to create together. We cannot wait for you all to join us in the place we love most!
