The day Mitch and I met was completely by chance. We have Michael Cassou, our best man, to blame. Mitch and Michael befriended each other in college, and later went on to join the fire service together, becoming fast and close friends. I met Michael at a Halloween party with some common acquaintances. Michael and I were lazing around one day when Mitch, recently back from his Colorado Fire Academy, walked in unannounced. Without a word, he walked over to Michael, and tipped him over in the recliner he was stretched out on. “Hello?” I thought, “What’s this?” I could go into how I went doe-eyed and gushed over his boyish good looks, that he charmed me with his sharp mind and quick wit - but more truthfully, aside from his humor and good nature, I immediately saw our shared affection for ‘tormenting’ our mutual friend – Matches, meet Gasoline (Poor Michael!) After our first meeting, we were pretty inseparable. For our first date, I accompanied Mitch to his departments award banquet where I became aquatinted with his crew members. Shortly after we both went on a caving trip in Wyoming. Getting to know each other more each day, we realized we wanted to be in each other’s lives as much as possible, so we moved in together. Since then, we have had countless more adventures. We adopted our four-legged buddy, Oliver. We toured Ireland, England and Paris together. And Mitch finally asked the question! We got engaged and decided to spend the rest of our lives together, loving each other and exploring the world together. Our wedding is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited to step into this next chapter of our lives together and Mr. & Mrs. Davis!
We were headed to Europe in two days, but when Mitch ordered the ring with the intention of waiting to propose overseas, he immediately changed his mind and did it the day he got it. We were on our way to drop Oliver off at a kennel in the Paradise Valley to be watched while were away. As we were driving, Mitch insisted that we stop because he had to pee. Then he insisted that I also let Oliver out to pee- which I refused on account of the cold weather. After some serious begging, I got out and not only did I let Oliver pee, I let him play in a mud puddle. I turned around to tell Mitch to look at what a cute boy Oliver was, and he was on one knee. It was beautiful and private- and total surprise.
