We met in a way that felt very fitting for us: online, but through a shared world. Ali first noticed Uriel after seeing photos he took during White Sox Spring Training that were reposted on Instagram by his coworker, Erinn (shoutout Erinn). One photo in particular caught her attention, and she followed Uriel soon after. At the time, Uriel had recently moved to Chicago from his hometown of Fullerton, California, for work and was settling into a new city and a new chapter. After a couple of months of being connected on Instagram, it eventually led to our first date. Our first date was relaxed, yet memorable. Ali came over to Uriel’s apartment, where we spent time hanging out and watching one of the greatest films of all time, Benchwarmers. Later that night, Ali invited Uriel to a party she was hosting while her parents were out of town. He said yes, and by the end of the night, he had met many of Ali’s friends, people who would later become some of his closest friends as well. The very next day, Uriel asked Ali to be his girlfriend. He knew what he wanted and felt sure about it. Ali, however, said no, because who asks someone to be their girlfriend after knowing each other for less than twenty-four hours? Over the next month, we ended up spending almost every day together before officially becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. It did not take long for us to realize this was something more. For Uriel, it was the moment he asked Ali to bring more than just a change of clothes, including an extra toothbrush. When Ali moved in, the idea of “me” quietly turned into “we.” Ali started telling her friends that Uriel was different in every good way possible, that this was fated for something greater. Uriel had felt it almost immediately, less than twenty-four hours after meeting Ali. And of course, any relationship destined to last had to survive multiple Packers vs. Bears games, with Uriel proudly cheering for the Packers and Ali fiercely loyal to the Bears. We are looking forward to life as a married couple and navigating everything that life throws our way. Oh, and of course, many more years of Bears vs. Packers games.
