Flight
Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is the closest and most convenient option. It's a 30-35 min drive to most areas including Commerce Twp, Royal Oak, and Downtown Detroit. The airport offers your typical rental car and ride-sharing options.
Hotel
Novi, MI is a great happy medium between being close to the airport (about 30 minutes) and the wedding venue (about 25 minutes), while offering plenty of hotel options and things to do around the area. Enjoy shopping at the Twelve Oaks Mall. Grab a bite at Ford's Garage, Sedona Taphouse, or Beerhead. Eat authentic Detroit style pizza at Buddy's. Take a hike in Lakeshore Park or Maybury State Park. Novi offers plenty of the normal and uniquely Michigan. Downtown Detroit is also about a 30 minute drive.
Hotel
Royal Oak, MI is home of the Chinchillas! Its about a 30 minute drive from the airport and offers great restaurants, breweries, bars, nightlife, and local events. However, it is about a 40 minute drive to the wedding venue. Labor Day weekend is also the weekend of Royal Oak's Arts, Beats, and Eats, featuring tons of food, drinks, and live music. Hotels may be a little hard to come by but feel free to reach out to Jonathan for recommendations about the surrounding areas. Birmingham, Troy, Clawson, Madison Heights, Berkley, and Ferndale offer much of the same in terms of things to do and places to stay. Downtown Detroit is about a 20 minute drive.
Hotel
If you want the big city experience, Downtown Detroit is the place to stay. It's about a 20 minute drive from the airport but a 45 minute drive to the wedding venue. Hotels will be on the pricey side, but the things to do and nightlife in the city are undeniable. Catch a Tiger's game; watch a show at the Fox Theater, Filmore or Opera House; gamble at a casino; checkout the Detroit Institute of Arts or other historical sites; shop on Woodward Ave or the Eastern Market; go bar hopping at The Belt or Corktown. The options are endless!
