Like many great love stories, ours began during an unusual time, right in the middle of Covid. With most places closed, Buffalo Wild Wings had become the closest thing to a “night out,” so we both found ourselves there one evening to watch the UFC fights. Jordi decided to make his move, by sending me a White Claw. That small gesture turned into easy conversation, laughter, and instant chemistry. Eventually, I needed to leave to go walk my dog, Jordi decided to join me. Together we walked Bandit - talking, laughing, and getting to know each other even more. That walk ended with our first kiss… and the beginning of forever. We never imagined that a casual night out during a pandemic would turn into the love of our lives. We are so grateful for every moment since and can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with all of you!
I decided to pop the question on our family trip to Tulum - secretly, carefully, and with a whole lot of planning. The only person who knew was my older brother, Diego, who was ready to come in clutch when the time came. The original plan was set for July 19th, a meaningful date for us since our birthdays fall on June 7th and June 19th. I had everything perfectly arranged with a stunning beachfront restaurant, including a special table right at the very front for our whole family. It was thoughtful, romantic… and completely ready to go. However, life has funny ways to remind you that things don’t always go according to plan even when you prepare your best. July 19th was our travel day, and just as we were about to take off from Austin, our plane was delayed due to an unexpected issue. Long story short: we missed our connecting flight in Atlanta and were forced to spend the night there. I was crushed. The worst part? I couldn’t tell Alissa why I was suddenly so stressed and disappointed. While trying to stay calm, I frantically contacted the restaurant to see if everything could be rearranged for the next day. Thankfully, they came through and set everything up again. The next evening, as we headed to the restaurant, our family was buzzing with excitement - chatting nonstop and celebrating our arrival. Meanwhile, I was in full “don’t mess this up” mode, nerves and all. Once we were seated and had ordered drinks, my brother Diego called everyone over for a “family photo.” What Alissa and the rest of my family didn’t know was that there was no photo planned at all, Diego was secretly recording from the very beginning. I had bought a shell ring box holder and my plan was to pretend to find the shell in the sand and I sort of pulled it off but as many of you watched I quickly got down on one knee, my dad thought I had stepped on something and Alissa totally thought I was playing a joke on her lol. It all became very clear very quickly as I opened up the shell revealing that illusive diamond ring Alissa had been patiently but eagerly awaiting. In that moment, all the stress, delays, and nerves disappeared. I felt 1,000 pounds lighter, and we both felt a rush of happiness we’ll never forget. After all the hurdles, the moment couldn’t have been more perfect. And of course… she said YES!
