Alison and Daniel’s story, on the surface, just seems like a standard blind date gone phenomenally. However there is a little more to the story. Ali had just finished with residency at West Virginia University when she took a job in Northeast Ohio. She settled in to her new house, new job and new life close to home. The only thing missing was a new boyfriend. She did as many single individuals do and turned to the Internet. This avenue quickly proved to be fruitless as she went several dates with no success. She turned to her new friend and coworker, Jen, to commiserate about her experience after work. After a couple of these conversations Jen put her best sales pitch skills to the test. She said, “I know one single guy. I don’t know much about him, but his family is great!” Ali was hesitant to give in at this point, but after some convincing she went in with the attitude of any true romantic; “Eh, what’s the worst that could happen” Daniel had moved back to Northeast Ohio after graduating from Purdue University and working in Indiana for a few years. He started his career and after some time he found himself with a good job, great friends and a great dog. Something was missing though, a girlfriend. His strategy to rectify this situation was that of no strategy. Needless to say this was not paying off. Daniel had only just begun to explore Internet dating and had long taken a stance of not being “set up” by friends and family. Dan’s brother Nathan found a loophole in that rule and just didn’t tell him about it. He just had his friend awkwardly take a “candid” picture of Dan (with the flash and shutter sound on) and gave the picture/number to his friend’s wife, Jen.
Flash forward to November 8, 2017, Nathan calls Dan and tells him he gave Dan’s number to a friend of a friend and he should expect a text. 6:32 P.M. Ali nervously sends a text to the mystery guy her friend “raved” about. It was a simple text, saying she got his number and asked if he wanted to meet up and get coffee sometime. It was a simpler response, “Ya sure. Sounds good to me” A conversation started about work and Ali’s love for brunch. On Nov 11th they went and got that coffee at BRIM Brewery. Dan, coming off an unsuccessful morning hunt was early for the first date (that was likely the only time this happened). One date turned into two and three and so on. Dan impressed Ali with his solid skeeball skills and Dan was in awe at Ali’s ability to act like a responsible adult. Their relationship grew until August 20th 2019 at Dun Aengus on the Aran Isles in Ireland Daniel Got down on one knee and asked Alison to marry him. She said yes! (We think) Now come and help them celebrate what started as a friends trying to help Ali avoid the pitfalls of online dating and a brother trying to push Dan on to the dating scene and ended up being the start of the next chapter of their life…Together… Forever
