Ali and Nathan met on June 17, 2012 - Ali's 21st birthday. It was a scene so romantic that producers for The Bachelor have repeatedly asked to use it on the show. Nathan was standing alone in the backyard wearing a sleeveless shirt and large straw hat, drinking Natural Lights next to the firepit (June fires aren't popular). Ali arrived at the party and was introduced to the crowd by her brother, Mike, Nathan’s roommate. Nathan had organized a charter bus to a DMB concert. The two spent most of the pre-game/concert together – there was an instant spark. In the Fall, Nathan travelled to Pittsburgh for the Tech game vs. Pitt. He and his friends were walking to the stadium when Nathan accidentally bumped into a beautiful girl wearing Jeggings, a walking boot, and very large sunglasses (it was Ali). They shared a big smile and hug and tailgated for a bit before separating for the game. This encounter confirmed what they both felt that fateful day back in June, but it was still a matter of time until they could be together short-distance. Ali was at VT when Nathan lived in DC, then Nathan moved to Boston and Prague while Ali worked in DC. In 2015, Nathan moved back to DC to be with Kyle. They had lived together for eight years at CNU and in DC, and they needed to make it to double-digits before they could break up. This gave Ali and Nathan the opportunity to be a short-distance couple. And it worked out! Their relationship grew and they became part of each other’s families. They explored DC, attended countless weddings, and helped each other through some personal and professional tough times. They moved into an apartment overlooking the DC “skyline” and began their lives together. Then, almost eight years to the day after they met in a backyard, and after a day of eating, drinking, and exploring many different parts of DC, Nathan and Ali got engaged at the Georgetown waterfront. They were doing what they love, in a place that they love, with the one that they love most.
