It was another Thursday evening in Paris. Lanterns lit the dimming streets and my oversized plaid scarf had me bundled tight as the city bid farewell to the last rays of sunlight. As was customary on an average night like this one, I had taken the metro from teaching English and was headed to a bar in the 5th arrondissment to meet up with friends. Little did I know that this night would change my life forever. A mutual friend introduced me to Edouard and our first conversation which consisted of mostly politics and culture left me content yet unsuspecting of his interest. A few weeks later, Edouard asked me for English lessons, and I thought I would do a new friend a favor. He was suave, as the French put it, and a word they have that would describe me is naïve. As you may well have figured out, after a year and a half of many Parisian cafés, European trips, and soirées with beloved friends, Edouard not only got himself an English teacher but a fiancée as well. I suppose I fell for his intelligence, his goofiness, and his overall French-ness (surprise!) ... I cannot wait to marry the man who became so quickly my best friend. Last year Edouard was accepted as an officer in the French Navy and is off to sea this February 2021 for 5 months. He will be back in Brittany this coming August just in time for the last bit of wedding preparations. I cannot wait for you to meet him!
