Brooke was my RA my freshman year at UGA and she fell in love with me the first time she saw me checking in to Creswell Hall. She invited me to her programs that she hosted in the building but I didn't ask her out until my sophomore year. A few of our friends set us up and we all went to Waffle House. I paid for her dinner and the rest was history.
I was a CA in Creswell Hall at UGA, and it was my job to assist underrepresented, specifically black students, in getting acclimated on campus. About halfway through the semester, one of my best friends, who managed the upper floors in the building, left, so I adopted the entire building's students to my roster, as now I was the only CA in the building. I engaged with Lucus the way I did with all of my residents, PROFESSIONALLY!! Then, about a year later, my friend asked me if I was open to dating someone. Of course, I asked who, and she said, Lucus. I said NO because he was previously my resident, and she suggested we all go on a group date (so it wasn't weird). We went to Waffle House, and the entire time, he was making jokes. When it was time to pay, he told the waitress, "I got little red..." because I was wearing a red peacoat. I didn't fall in love with him after dinner, but I knew he was cool. I didn't begin to like him more until Valentine's Day when he gifted me "A Return to Love" by Marianne Williamson. I've been grateful for that job every day since.
