We met in fall 2016 working as teachers at Nature’s Classroom at Camp Cody in Freedom, NH. The first time Alie met Mark, he was filling out a “fart chart” in the main cabin at camp, because all the staff members were curious what the average flatulence rate was for the staff while eating camp food, so naturally, we gathered data. It was immediate attraction 😂
We were on our way to Ocean Park, ME where we had our first date to spend the weekend at a beach house rented by Wendy (Alie’s mom). Alie says “wow, Mark this would be a great place to propose since we had our first date here. Did ya bring a ring?” all in good fun. Really, just teasing. But Mark's stomach dropped, as he looked out the driver window to hide his face. Alie didn't notice. Fast forward a few hours and we make our way down to the beach with takeout. Alie settles into her beach chair with the styrofoam box of calamari and digs in. Mark gets down on one knee, looks her in the eye while her mouth is full, and says “Alie, will you marry me?” Alie, in shock, stumbles for words and eventually ends on “about time!” Which of course is a yes.
