Alicia and Greg first met in the Emerging Health Professionals Program during their senior year of high school at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Alicia was actually in the morning session but was attending the afternoon session to accommodate field hockey practice in August. When she walked into the anatomy lab, her eyes lit up at the cute boy sitting at the table in the corner. She went over to introduce herself and sit with him. Greg was also sitting at that table. 😂 Jokes aside, Alicia thought Greg was cute too. Eventually, Greg asked Alicia for her number. Greg and Alicia stayed in touch during that year and went on a 'date' to Coldstone Creamery in the spring. Alicia even expected Greg to ask her to his prom at Allen, but he never planned to attend prom. Oh well, their happy story was delayed a bit but it doesn't make it any less loving.
Greg was always good about staying in touch with Alicia over the next 7 or so years after high school. In Fall of 2017, the two started discussing life in Pittsburgh, medical/graduate school and the opportunities there. Long story short, Greg finally left Philadelphia and spent his third year of medical school in Pittsburgh while Alicia was finishing her externship at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. We were pretty much inseparable even with our busy schedules. By the end of 2018, Greg was already telling Alicia his plans to propose in 2020... Following graduation, Alicia took a wonderful job opportunity in Texas and moved closer to her nephew and now niece while Greg finished out medical school in Philly. Our first year of long distance didn't seem too bad as we had many trips planned and Greg spent about 5 months in Texas. Greg matched at the University of Massachusetts for urology and graduated medical school in the spring of 2020. Before residency could begin, he wanted to reach one more milestone...
Greg had initially planned to propose during a trip to Pittsburgh in March of 2020, but due to the pandemic that trip did not happen. He booked a one way ticket to Texas and ended up spending a little over 10 weeks with Alicia. We are so thankful for that time together as we hiked, visited our niece and nephew, and had lots of home cooked dinners and movie nights. In June, Alicia flew to Massachusetts to visit Greg just before residency would begin. Greg had planned to propose while hiking to the top of Mt Wachusett. However, Greg read a text between Alicia and Alexis (MOH) that said, "does he remember that you don't want to be sweaty when he proposes..." Greg called an audible and decided the local botanic garden would be a better option. After walking around the entire garden with friends, he finally found the perfect spot for a picture. Even though, Alicia noted the pocket bulge, she was elated when Greg was down on his knee asking to marry her. She said YES!
