We're getting married!

Dan and Alicia met on a mission trip during the summer of 2013. Every year, after a long day of building homes in the southern heat, the group would have a kickball tournament. Dan and Alicia were on opposing teams, and Dan showed up to the game in his steel-toe work boots. Alicia accused Dan of cheating, to which Dan responded, "Show me the rule book!" And the rest is pretty much history. Alicia realized that the alleged "cheater" was actually pretty cute, thus beginning her pursuit to get him to notice her. Spoiler alert: it worked.

Dan knew he wanted to get Alicia out to the lakefront overlooking the Chicago skyline to propose; he just needed a reason to get her out there. After a delicious brunch at The Lakefront Restaurant at Theater on the Lake, Dan asked to go sit out by lake for a little while. Alicia said yes--sitting by the water had become a favorite pastime since moving to Chicago in May of 2020. And on that beautiful (and windy!) fall day, Dan got down on one knee and asked Alicia if she would marry him.
