A lot of people have been curious about what kind of wedding we are having; Indian or American, modern or traditional. The answer is yes! We hope that our wedding will represent both of us and our families so it is going to be a mix of a lot. The wedding itself will start with a brief Hindu ceremony (brief for Hindu ceremonies is around 45 minutes) and then after a short break we will have an approximately 20-30 minute long Unitarian Universalist ceremony. We really hope you enjoy both ceremonies and we are excited to celebrate with you.
As you know, Alice and Namrata are blending different families, cultures and religions through their marriage. Namrata wanted to incorporate this idea by hand-drawing two culturally distinct patterns that flow into one harmonious design. It was a fun (yet time consuming) process ... we hope you loved it!
Good question! For the Mehndi we recommend and Indian outfit. Otherwise feel free to wear whatever! Indian or American, formal or semi-formal to the other events, just be sure that you can dance in what you are wearing to the reception. Keep in mind, there's dirt and gravel - no stilettos gents!
Totally up to you. In Indian weddings this is a common custom but not common for Western weddings. There will be some time between the wedding and reception. Depending on where your are staying a change of clothes may be possible.

Death Beard! They are a folk rock band and a lot more mellow than the name implies. Alice grew up with Amanda Henke, one of the band's talented members, and we just love their sound.
That is totally up to you. We think there will be around two hours between the wedding and the reception. We know some people will want to go back to their hotels and rest up or change; where as, others might want to quickly check something out in downtown Asheville (17 minutes away) or Black Mountain (13 minutes away). People are able to stay at Hidden River we recommend heading off site. The Hidden River staff will be setting up for the Reception and they have asked that people stay out of the tent. Filo is a lovely coffee and pastry shop just three minutes away if you are looking for something very close.
