Darius & I met when I joined his small group at our church. I had just graduated college and was a hot mess of a human being at the time. My first reaction to him was, "Wow, he's cute". But I immediately scolded myself; I was in no state to start thinking about guys, I was too busy trying to learn how to be an adult. As our small group started, we went around & said our names and listed a hobby. I told the group that I loved to bowl -- this caught Darius' attention; he, too, likes to bowl. When our small group ended, we all stuck around for a while to chat and Darius came up to me and asked the question that started it all, "So, why do you come here?" What he really wanted to know was why I drove an hour from home to be a part of that specific small group, but his question threw me off, so my response was quick and disinterested. Luckily for me, my response didn't discourage him from continuing to pursue a friendship with me.
It was PERFECT. I had no idea what the day had in store for me. Every month my family & I meet up and have a big family lunch where we get to catch up on all the happenings in life. This particular family lunch was a special one, because Darius' parents were going to come for the first time. Our parents had never met before so that was the big event I was expecting to take place that day. As we were waiting for everyone to get there, I noticed that Darius was starting to act a little weird. He kept starring at me and not saying anything. I just thought he was hungry, ha! Once everyone arrived, we circled up to pray in the kitchen (like usual) and my dad announced that Darius was going to lead us in prayer since his parents were the guests of honor. However, instead of a prayer, Darius began a speech about how honored he felt to be accepted into my family and how that wouldn't be possible without me and that he wanted to spend the rest his life with me. He got down on one knee, in front of my entire family, and asked me to be his wife. Of course, I said yes! We feel so grateful for all the love, encouragement, and support that we have received from both family and friends. We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you!
