Lexi was back in Dubuque on summer break after her freshman year at the University of Iowa and found a job as a server at a local restaurant. Jake was a cook at this restaurant, but happened to be gone in Ireland for the same two weeks Lexi was starting to work. By the time he got back from winning football games across the pond and came back to work he realized there was a cute new girl working there and Lexi believed that there was a new cook that got hired on. After some flirting across the cooking line in the kitchen between orders, various food being thrown to get the other persons attention (pickles weren't working so Jake went on to find out that bell pepper strips were the key to getting Lexi's attention), and taking way to long in completing side work for the sake of not ending the conversation too soon; Jake finally got the hint and asked Lexi out for their first date! Surprise, she said yes and they had their first date on July 7th (Jake still had the date in his calendar) at a local coffee shop. What the two of them believed would be a 30min to maybe an hour long date, ended up being over 3 hours long! The only reason for it ending was they both had to get ready to go to work that late afternoon. That same night, with neither of them having wanted to end their coffee date, decided to continue on the good vibes and go see Jurassic World 2 at the the movie theaters when they were both done with their shifts. Fast forward to 2.5 years and multiple weekends of driving back and forth from Dubuque to Iowa City, and Jake was making the big leap of moving to Iowa City to be closer to Lexi. They moved into a house together and were content with their little family of themselves and their cute doggo Nike, well at least Lexi was ;) Because after many trips to one of her favorite places that always reminds her of happy times, Lexi was taken by surprise (since Jake was always saying he would never propose on a Disney location) when she turned around during a photo in front of Cinderella's castle to Jake down on one knee and asking her to marry him. December 18th, 2022 will always be their most magical trip! At least that's what they both believed to be the case. Yet, with a lot of happy thoughts and of course some pixie dust they are able to create their own fairytale with their family and get married in Walt Disney World. Both Jake and Lexi are excited to continue their story, with a small intimate family gathering in Florida and then celebrate it big with all of their close family and friends at the Milestone in Farley, IA.
