We were at one of our favorite spots in Portsmouth, New Hampshire--the place where the summer before we started to discuss long term plans together of moving in, getting a dog, future vacations, our dream house, and even marriage and children. It was at The Book and Bar, a bookshop with a cafe and bar and fun board games, all in one place! I picked up two great books, he asked me what I want to drink, grabbed a board game and sat down. I was so excited about showing him my books and having him taste my beer as I taste his, and all he could say is, "Can we just play the board game already?" It was the game Sorry, one we played recently at a brewery in our hometown. I responded, "are you okay? You look really pale. Do you need a glass of water or some chapstick?" To which he replied, "I'm fine, can we just play the board game?" I nodded and rolled my eyes and opened the board game. I found a ring inside, and was puzzled. I asked, "Did somebody leave a ring in here?" At which point he got out of his chair, and down on one knee. I gasped, and I started to cry; my heart was racing. All I could say was, "Oh my god!" Finally, he said, "Lexi, will you marry me?" I screamed in joy, "Yes, a thousand times yes! Of Course!" The color returned to his face and he stopped shaking, and he said, "I knew you would say yes, I don't know why I was so nervous!" We kissed and embraced, and now the Book and Bar is a place that will forever be special and a place we will return to every year to reminisce on our love and commitment to each other for life.
