Garrett and Lex met in South Boston through Jon, a college friend of Garrett`s who Lex moved downstairs from and became close friends with. It didn`t take long for the two to take interest in one another, though the beginning of their dating history was hardly something out of a fairytale. Garrett, head over heels as he was, wanted to ‘play things cool’ by pretending to have no interest. He notably left a night out for drinks early (organized by friends to get the two together) where he stated, “he needed to get home to change out his laundry.” To this day, laundry being a major priority for him still drives Lex nuts. After a couple weeks of Southie run-ins and some prodding from friends, she took matters into her own hands and asked Garrett out to a charity ball. They had a memorable ‘warm up lap’ first date just two days before the big night and within the week Lex made phone calls to her mother and many of her friends to tell them she needed to make sure Garrett would stick around so she could marry him. This set the stage for what became an adoring and unpredictable relationship, and the beginning of a balance the two of them always needed in each others lives.
