A Decade in the Making!

Our first date was on Father's Day in 2009. Yes, that's right. And so of course it was a double date with his parents. No, I'm not kidding, this is a true story. I was 16 and Andy was 15, and my being older has been an ongoing joke with his parents ever since. Anyway, we started with dinner and an interrogation. His father asked me, "What are your plans with my son?" My response? Besides sheer panic and confusion, "To get to know him?" His parents proceeded to ask me questions, which their intentions were likely more benign than I perceived, but it was a more intense feeling than any interview I've been in. Next up, we went to a movie. What movie? The Proposal. Yep, our first date and we were watching a movie about a proposal. We then got ice cream and I started asking him all the questions, because frankly up till this moment we hadn't been alone and he had said next to nothing. The end of the night, his parents let us out at my house and he walked me to the door. Nervously, I dropped my purse when he asked to kiss me. Then right when we had our first kiss, his parents drove back around with their headlights shining on us. Despite all the anxiety and embarrassment, here we are almost a decade later. His parents are some of the biggest supports in my life and now we go on triple dates (addition of his brother and sister-in-law). His family is my family, and vice versa, and now we are finally going to make it official!
