I was a freshman taking Geometry (sophomore class). Javier was moved to my class mid year and he sat right in front of me. I had no idea who he was or that he was a boxer. He would always ask me how to do the work or if I could take his paper when I turned in mine. It was my birthday coming up on a Saturday and I made sure to tell everyone (those who know me, know I’m really big on birthdays)! Javier then asked for my number because he said he needed to tell me happy birthday (haha what a great excuse). From then on, we just hit it off. We were really good friends and talked all the time. I knew we liked each other, but we never offiicially dated until sophomore year.

It was a Friday and we were going to the Pearl and downtown the way we always do every year. We went to meet our friends and then headed to the Pearl. All along I was updating my mom because I thought we were late. We get to the Pearl and we’re walking down to where my family is. I can tell Javier was trying to hold my hand but in a nervous way, but I didn’t really put too much thought into it. We walk down to the Riverwalk and I see my family walk to us. I still don’t have a clue about what’s going on until I heard the song “This is it”. (I always told Javier make sure he plays this song when he proposed) I asked Javier why is this song playing?! He said “look look” I still had no idea where I was looking at until I saw his family come out. Immediately I want to cry because I knew THIS IS IT!It was such a perfect proposal. We still play the video daily. He put so much effort and thought into it. He kept me distracted all week. He went with my mom to pick a perfect spot. He even went to ask/tell my grandma that he was proposing. Oh it was just PERFECT!!
