VALID PASSPORT: Required for entry to the BVI. Ensure passports are valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip. ENTRY FORM ONLINE PORTAL: All visitors must complete the BVI Online Immigration & Customs Form (https://bviedcard.gov.vg/en) within 72 to 36 hours of arrival. This service is FREE, please do not pay or provide info to any unofficial/scam websites. DRIVERS LICENSE: If you plan to rent a car. CREDIT/DEBIT CARD: While credit cards, especially Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at hotels and larger establishments, AMEX may be less widely accepted. Cash is essential in the islands. BRING CASH/ATMs ARE LIMITED in Virgin Gorda and may not be readily available or working. The official currency of the BVI is US Dollar. It's highly recommended to bring enough cash to last your entire trip. While many restaurants accept cards, please bring enough cash for taxis, tips, ferries, and smaller establishments. Small bills are especially helpful.
To help ensure a smooth trip, advance reservations for all activities, taxis and dining are strongly encouraged. Use the list of trusted vendors on the getting around page, especially for scheduling taxis ahead of time. While same-day requests are often possible, keep in mind that things operate on "island time," so planning ahead is the best way to guarantee availability and timely service! Familiarize yourself with pricing: Taxis in Virgin Gorda charge per person, and the cost per person can be lower if you are part of a larger group. Taxi fares are not metered and operate on a cash-only basis.
