What to Wear
Tips and tricks for dressing to the nines!
For Men: Black tie means a tuxedo—black or midnight navy—paired with a white dress shirt, black bow tie and formal black shoes. A cummerbund or waistcoat is optional but classic. If you’d like to add a bit of personality, consider a velvet dinner jacket, subtle patterned bow tie or sleek cufflinks. Please see below for tuxedo rental resources. For Women: Opt for a floor-length gown or formal jumpsuit. And black tie doesn't mean solely black attire- color is welcome! Elegant fabrics like silk, satin, velvet, lace and chiffon are excellent choices. Feel free to incorporate fun details like sequins, ruffles or subtle prints.
What Not to Wear
To keep the formality consistent, please avoid:
-Short cocktail dresses or sundresses -Tuxedos without a bow tie that are not black or midnight navy -Dresses with high slits -Lightweight or casual fabrics (linen, cotton, jersey) -Daytime attire (jeans, khakis or casual shoes) If you’re unsure, err on the dressier side. As Oscar Wilde once said, "You can never be overdressed..."
