How it all started

Our story began where all great modern romances do: with a promising new profile appearing on both of our phones. Hinge declared we were “most compatible,” and we have to admit, they nailed it. Our first date was set for a rainy Thursday at a ramen shop—a choice Alex was highly skeptical of, especially after it started pouring. She almost didn't go, but thanks to a friend's wise advice (“worst case, you get a free drink!”), she braved the weather. Alex arrived a little late (we still disagree on whether it was 15 or 30 minutes), but the spot was perfect, and we talked non-stop. The night ended with Tom hailing a cab for Alex under his umbrella, and we both knew it was the start of something special. That first date led to a whirlwind of adventures. Tom planned the most thoughtful, hilarious outings. We went "glicing" at The Edge, where he was terrified of the glass floor and Alex was terrified of the fake ice. Tom was convinced Alex was a terrible skater, a theory that was spectacularly debunked when he finally saw her on real ice at Bryant Park. From mini-golf and painting to roller-skating and pasta-making, we fell in love through shared laughter and experiences. Soon, our dates turned into trips, and we explored the world together, from San Diego to Paris, making memories every step of the way. But the most unforgettable trip started as a total mystery. For a final summer getaway, Tom planned everything, only giving Alex a cryptic packing list (“one hiking outfit, a few dresses”). His uncharacteristic anxiety during the traffic-jammed drive to our secret destination—Newport, Rhode Island—was Alex’s first clue that something was up. The final hint came when he nervously admitted we were rushing to catch a boat. We made it just in time for a private sunset cruise. Even then, Alex was completely oblivious, happily chatting with the crew while Tom was quietly building up his courage. As the sun set, he took her hands, compared us to a perfectly balanced black and white cookie, and got down on one knee. It was the easiest “Yes!” of her life. The rest of the evening felt like a dream. After sharing the wonderful news with our parents, we went to dinner to celebrate. We were so giddy that we ended up telling the couple at the table next to us our whole story. In an incredible act of kindness, we discovered at the end of the night that they had secretly paid for our meal. It was the perfect end to the most amazing day. Now, we can't wait to embark on our next chapter and celebrate with all of you!
