We met like many couples this day and age—online. We were both instantly drawn to each other and planned our first date for the following day. Unforunately, Alex found out that just hours prior to their planned meeting, someone dear to her had suddenly passed. What she didn’t know until months later was that Travis had been so eager to meet her, he had already driven the hour to their meeting point and had been waiting. He was supportive and checked on her each following day. On October 4th, they were finally able to meet. They spent the next eight hours talking as the sparks flied.
On 11/11, both of them had their wish granted. They were heading out to run errands when Alex mentioned wanted to stop over at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth; the location of their first date. They went over to the bench that they’d spent so many hours together on. Obviously, Alex was suspicious. After what seemed like hours, Alex assumed her assumption was wrong—he wasn’t proposing. She asked if they should continue walking and stood up to leave. As she turned away, Travis said, “but before we go…” Alex turned around to see him down on one knee. “Alex,” he said. “This is where we had our first date and where we fell in love. Now, this is where I want to ask you to spend the rest of your life with me. Will you marry me?” Obviously, she said yes!
