How We Met

New Years Eve 2018

It was like any other new years eve, where as one does Alexandra and Harry both found themselves at a party. Alexandra had received an invitation from her co-worker and had debated heavily whether she should go but decided last minute that she would. Harry on the other hand, had nothing better to do and showed up without hesitation. Little did either know that what was seemingly an innocuous decision would change their lives forever. At this party, Harry and Alexandra met for the first time, starting with a harmless handshake, progressed to a game of beer pong and then to a few side-conversations. The attraction was immediate for both parties and they continued to find themselves gravitate towards each other. It culminated in one moment, where as is customary at the strike of mid-night, the plenary of couples around Alexandra and Harry began to lock lips. As two of the only single attendees, they both looked around at the romance in the air, proceeded to lock eyes and let out a synchronized laugh. When the party started to wane, neither Alexandra or Harry wanted this magical night to be over. They mutually agreed to find another source of libations and made their way into the rainy streets of New York. Little did they know that it was now close to 3am and despite the reputation, the city does occasionally sleep. They walked around in vain, failure after failure but neither felt dejected. Quite the opposite. Knowing the end was near Alexandra quickly formulated a plan. Having shared some of her musical tastes with Harry earlier in the evening she offered to send him one of her playlists. Harry happily agreed, contact information exchanged. As Harry waited with Alexandra for her Uber, he too had to strategize. As the minutes begin to pass, he had to quickly decide how to end the night. Unfortunately his courage failed him. The best he could muster was a quick hug and a little peck on the cheek. The night had ended and both parties made their way home.

How We Fell In Love

New Years Eve 2018 - September 2020

After that fateful night on New Years eve, Alexandra and Harry quickly grew closer. The courtship started with a casual dinner. It then progressed to a weekend trip together, where despite Harry’s erratic driving and Alexandra’s poor choice of winter footwear, they grew even closer. One might even say, they began falling in love. Then came the big test. You see, Alexandra has a 7-year old son named Orson. And despite having seen Orson numerous times digitally, Harry was worried. What if Orson didn’t like him? What if they didn’t get along? The moment of truth quickly came, where on an all important night in February, they finally met. And to Harry’s delight, Orson was as pleasant as can be. First test passed. Things then only accelerate from there. Alexandra began meeting Harry’s friends, Harry began meeting Alexandra’s. Then it was the parents, then the extended family. All parties came away happy. Second test passed. Fast forward one year, passing over numerous nights out, countless nights in and plenty of memorable trips, Harry and Alexandra decided to move in together. Their story had progressed to a point where they felt comfortable, perhaps even ecstatic at the prospect of spending more time together. And so in March of 2020, as the world started coming to grips with its new reality, Harry and Alexandra took a next step in theirs. Then came the final test. As the world crumbled around them, they spent each hour of every day together in a perfectly design (albeit small) one bedroom apartment. Yet they thrived in the midst of an “unprecedented” situation. Final test passed.

The Proposal

It was 5 months into their co-habitation that Harry knew. He knew that there is no one else in the world like Alexandra. That there is no other person in the world that he would prefer to come home to each night, to make funny jokes about their now mutual son Orson, to spend evenings with laying on the couch, to visit the park on weekends with a bottle full of boxed wine. It felt right, it felt like he had found his home. And so, on a night in September of 2020, in possibly the least romantic way possible, Harry proposed to Alexandra on the couch of their shared home. She said yes. And now here we all are, about to celebrate their union. The most perfect union, in the craziest of times.
