Our Story

It all started with a quarter -Gabe

It all started when I moved to Norfolk, Nebraska. I had started college and was in need of a new job. I applied for two places, and wouldn’t you know it they both called me the same day and scheduled interviews. I was not partial to either one of them so I flipped a coin to decide which one I would go to. No one could have guessed that a quarter of all things could change our lives forever. Fate decided to lead me to my new position at KFC. There I was introduced to a beautiful young woman named Alexandra. She was 17 & I was 19, freshman in college. Now, at first, we were not the best of friends, we butted heads a lot with our style of working. She would tell me “You're packing the chicken too slow!” Which I definitely was going slow, but only to ensure the quality & placement of each piece of poultry. After some time of working with each other we found that we had a lot of things in common. Like our love of the countryside, world history, and our fascination with all things antique. We started enjoying each other’s company more. I always knew it was going to be a good day at work when I saw her car in the parking lot. Things all changed when I had a dream about her. In the dream I was sitting at a sunlit table with two children. One older with glasses and the other sitting in a highchair at the other end. I could see Alex in the kitchen preparing a meal for all of us. I couldn’t figure out what this dream meant and why I had it at all. But, after the dream, I would find myself with high anxiety every time I was around Alex. So much that I would distance myself from her only to catch my breath. One day at work we found ourselves alone in the same room. Something compelled me to tell her about the dream. I told her everything, I described the children and the setting of the room we were in. She stared at me in silence for a moment then proceeded to turn her back to me and abruptly walk out of the room. The entire time she was gone I was thinking to myself “Oh my god she thinks you’re a total creep now!” She came back into the room where I was and before I could say anything she told me she had the same dream, and the description of the children were loosely the same as well. We stared at each other in silence for a few moments and both knew we were meant for each other. We hung out a few times, before I finally built up the courage to ask her out in a Subway parking lot. Years later, we find ourselves with the exact two children we both saw in our dreams. They say dreams don’t come true, well I’m here to tell you they do, and they did for us.

The Proposal

Waterfalls and Rings-Gabe

I had a strong ambition to make the proposal my own and not copy anything else the people around us did. I am a strong lover of moving water. So, I embarked on a journey to find the perfect spot to propose. Originally, I had planned to propose in Nebraska by a remote spot next to the Platte River. I had it all planned out, until we were invited to my brother’s place in Colorado. I thought to myself “this could be the best spot to propose!” I had only a week to plan it out, so I started researching locations in which I could do it in. I had to keep in mind that, due to her recent birthing we could not do anything too vigorous. It was also important to me that the location be remote and away from other people. I spent countless hours researching places, looking up reviews and descriptions of locations and even getting on google earth to check them out to find the ideal perfect spot to ask the woman I love to marry me. I found a small remote waterfall in a state park near my brother’s house. It was perfect, it was small enough that not many people cared to see it yet big enough to satisfy my own desires of the “perfect” spot. The forecast for the day I was going to propose was warm sunny skies. On the day of the proposal, it was overcast and slightly breezy. We had missed out on our anniversary in January, due to illness, so we never got to celebrate it. That was my excuse for taking her out there to “make up our lost time” On our journey up the mountain range to the park it started to rain a bit. I was not happy with this, because my perfect proposal was quickly turning into a bad one in my eyes. We get to the park and there was no one there, the park ranger told me he was going to close the trail to the waterfall soon because it floods and becomes dangerous during rain. We got to the trail head, and we were the only ones there. At this point, the rain had turned into a light drizzle. We proceeded to go onto the trail, only to be met with a small, flooded stream we had to jump over. It was early May and all the plants around us were luscious green and everything was bursting to life. The little bit of rain mixed with the warm breezes made us feel like we were in the Amazon rainforest. We journeyed on up the mountain, until we got to the top of the waterfall. The rain had made what was once a small stream now a full-on waterfall pouring over the rocks below. There was a small bridge that was 3ft wide which gave me high anxiety as it led over the top of the falls (no rails), water almost overflowing the bridge as the rain started to pour down. I told her to step onto it so I could take a picture. As she walked onto the middle of the bridge, her back turned to me, I pulled out the ring. As she turned to face me, I asked the question. She said yes and on September 24th, she will make me the happiest man in the world.

For all the days along the way
