Travel

We've listed some general travel information on getting to and around Italy, and accommodations near the venue, but please reach out if you need additional support. Domingo is from the region of Puglia, which is where we’re getting married. The capital city of the region is Bari, which has an international airport (mostly connected to Europe). It’s about a 45 minute drive from Bari to Masseria San Nicola, where the wedding is. Below are hotels and masseria we recommend. Please click the "view" button in that section to see additional options. Please note, June is the start of high season, so please book soon. NOTE: We will follow up with a list of the places we will have a pickup/drop-off for the wedding. For our US guests, please see the info on new EITAS travel requirements below. Quick reminder: Check your passports to make sure they are valid for at least 3 months past the day of your departure from Europe. Babysitter: For those bringing children to Italy, see below.

Travel Note

EITAS Requirement

EITAS is a new electronic travel authorization required for most non-EU citizens to enter the Schengen Area of the Europe, including Italy. It’s not actually a visa, and the process isn’t complicated, but it will require pre-approval to travel starting in mid-2025. The program hasn’t gone into effect yet (as of Feb 2025). The application form will be available on the official ETIAS website once the system is launched. You can learn more about requirement here, but you basically need a valid travel document and to answer some basic questions about your travel and yourself. The application fee is 7 EUROS for applicants aged between 18 to 70 years, but travelers under 18 or over 70 years old are exempt.

Flight

Flights into Italy

We recommend flying into Rome, Milan or Naples and then getting an internal flight, train, or renting a car to get to Bari. (There is also a new direct flight from NYC to Bari, see below) One additional piece of advice for those in the US is to use an Italian VPN, it usually drops the prices quite a bit. It’s often less expensive to fly to a larger US city, where you can get a direct flight, rather than taking a connecting flight out of smaller cities. Currently we’re seeing savings of around $500-1000 per person out of Chicago or NYC. Getting there from the US: Below are some airlines that have good direct flights. Neos Air (https://us.neosair.com/). Starting this year there are direct flights from NYC to Bari. Currently, they only fly one day a week to Italy (Tues) and return to US (Wed.) Ita Airways https://www.ita-airways.com/en_us Direct flight to Rome from NY, LA, Chicago, Miami and Boston. Delta https://www.delta.com/ Direct Flight to Rome from NY, Atlanta and Detroit, connecting flights from most major cities. American Airlines https://www.aa.com/homePage.do Direct flights to Rome and Milan from NY. Direct flights from Chicago and Miami to Rome. United https://www.united.com/en/us Direct flight to Rome and Milan from NY. Direct flight Chicago to Rome. Air Lingus and TAP also have well priced flights (albeit with layovers)

Travel Note

Getting Around Inside ITALY

Flights within Italy and the EU There are a number of budget airlines that offer great options for getting to Bari from within Italy (or other cities in the EU). Remember to be careful with connecting times coming in so you have time to get through customs and pick up luggage. It’s also good to check the weight allowances for your bags (they are usually similar). Easy Jet https://www.easyjet.com/en/ Direct flight from Milan Malpensa to Bari Ryan Air https://www.ryanair.com/us/en Direct flight from Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino to Bari Vueling https://www.vueling.com/en/flights-to-bari No flights from Rome or Milan, but cheap flights out of London,Lisbon, Madrid, Hamburg, Amsterdam, and a few other EU cities. Trains Italy has a number of high speed trains connecting major cities. It’s a great option for getting down to the Bari and then renting a car. Trenitalia: https://www.trenitalia.com/ Italia Treno: https://www.italotreno.com/en Both have High-speed trains from Rome to Bari (4 hours), and Milan to Rome (3 hours) or Milan to Naples (4 hours). Cars We recommend renting a car from Bari as it’s a great way to get around the region and see the sites. Normally cars should cost between 30-40 a day. It can also be nice to drive down if you come in further north, but can be expensive if you don’t plan to return to the same city when you fly out. Some things to note: If you want an automatic, make sure to select it when you reserve, in Italy many cars are manual. Do NOT take an electric, many regions don’t have complete coverage for recharging, especially in the south. https://www.priceline.com/ We usually book through priceline, so we can see what’s on offer from many companies. Car Service/ Drivers in Fasano (For the Wedding) Please note, this is not ‘ a Taxi service’. It must be booked in advance, you cannot call these drivers the night of for pickup. For those bringing children to Italy, here is a recommended babysitting group in Fasano / Savelletri. They have worked often with our wedding planner and also the venue where we will be married.
