Water Island is about one mile wide and 2 ½ miles long. The maximum elevation is 1,260 feet above sea level. The island has a wealth of diversity; a varied coastline featuring many bays, beaches, wetlands, ponds and coral reefs. As of 1996 Water Island became a part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, it is officially a U.S. territory under the Government of the Virgin Islands based out of St. Thomas.
