The night we met, we were both out celebrating our friends' birthdays! Alex was celebrating her now maid of honor, Marissa's birthday, and Brandon was celebrating his now groomsman, Denziel's birthday. Interesting side story, both of their birthdays are on March 1st & they're now engaged to be married! To set the stage, that night happened to be San Antonio's Pub Run which happens every first Friday of every month, so downtown was the place to be. Brandon caught Alex's eye in a club en route to the bar. He was the most handsome guy in the room by far, dressed in a sport coat with a pocket square, so it didn't take much for her to ask him for a dance. They danced until the lights came on & the music stopped. Brandon snagged Alex's phone number & she never heard from him again. Just kidding, but he did wait a lengthy two weeks to text! When he finally did, it read "Hey Alex, it's Brandon from Kremlin." She thought that was odd since she usually gave Marissa's number out to boys at the club instead of her own, but Brandon was no boy, he was a man. After asking about her sign, he asked her on a date, and another, and another...
Alex grew up going to the beach and Brandon knew taking her back to the Gulf Coast would be the perfect setting for a sunset proposal after a romantic walk along the beach. Little did she know, he had arranged for her closest family & friends to be present. Perhaps they would hide in the sand dunes as he dropped to one knee with the waves beating ashore, he imagined. Unfortunately, the persistent rain shattered his vision, forcing him to call an audible, or a few. They traveled to South Padre Island often & loved to frequent a dive bar, The Quarterdeck. It was the perfect Plan B. They drove to SPI along with her mother, brother & grandmother to run errands, then dinner at a nice restaurant for Alex's Mom's birthday, an unsuspecting occasion. As it continued to pour, Brandon suggested he & Alex grab some pre-dinner cocktails with a couple friends at the Quarterdeck in lieu of running errands. It was early afternoon as we made our way up the stairs, around the corner, to the door which had a sign "Closed for a Private Party." Plan C it is! Denziel & Marissa had snagged a table at the adjacent restaurant, Windjammer's, which wasn't difficult since they were the only patrons in the restaurant. They chose a table with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beach, the restaurant was decorated in a tropical holiday theme, with a beachy Christmas tree by the table. Not what Brandon had imagined but it would do. We caught up over wine, just the four of us as a crowd of Alex's loved ones gathered quietly behind an aquarium wall. Brandon was shaking in his boots. He couldn't think of anything other than finding an appropriate window in the conversation pop the question. After some funny looks from Denziel across the table Brandon stood, took her hand, & began to speak about their time together. Alex blacked out, she couldn't believe it was finally happening. He took a knee & she said YES! Friends & family cheered as they celebrated by closing down the now open Quarterdeck!
