Alexandra and Adan were both attending Southwest Minnesota State University in the Fall of 2017. They were Resident Assistants that lived in the same complex, seeing each other weekly if not daily. They started as acquaintances and slowly but surely bloomed into a couple. After the 2017 Fall Semester, Adan moved to Spearfish, SD and transferred to Black Hills State University. The first year and a half of the relationship was all long distance. It was difficult, but in the end it only brought Alexandra and Adan closer together and taught them to not take their time together for granted.
Almost a year and a half into their relationship, February 2018, Alexandra and Adan barely saw each other in person for some time. With Valentine's Day approaching, seeing all the couple's, hearts, and flowers, Alexandra decided to make a random visit to see Adan. She arrived to Spearfish on February 15, 2018. Adan knew there was a surprise but he wasn't sure what to expect. After catching up and going to dinner, Alexandra went and laid a piece of paper on the bed, came out, and waited for Adan to go into the bedroom to find it. 15 minutes later, Alexandra urged Adan to go check something in there. He was confused but finally went and read the paper. The paper listed all the major steps in their relationship they had taken, with the last thing on the list saying (Hope he says yes). This was a proposal that had been done on Alexandra and Adan's favorite show, How I Met Your Mother so Adan knew what was coming as soon as he saw the paper. Adan came out into the living room to see Alexandra down on her knee, as she shakily asked "Adan, will you marry me?" Adan said yes immediately.
After Alexandra had moved in with Adan she kept urging him to come with her to the shelter to see what dogs were up for adoption. Months prior to moving in together, they had seen online an adorable Shar Pei and Shiba Inu mix up for adoption at the Spearfish humane society. Sadly, she was adopted before the pair could move in together. As sad as they were though, they still wanted to see what fur babies were available. As they were taken outside to see all the dogs Alexandra and Adan immediately saw the dog that looked exactly like the one they had seen online. Alexandra asked, "Is that Luna?" The employee said yes, she had recently been given back to the shelter after being adopted. It felt like destiny to Alexandra and Adan. They were sad the previous owner gave her back so quickly but they were eager to give her a happy home. They adopted Luna the next day. Luna was adorable, funny, and in need of training when she was brought home. After lots of work, trials, and errors Luna is now the best dog Alexandra and Adan could imagine for themselves. She's unique and silly just like her parents.
Alexandra is currently working full time as an AmeriCorps Vista Member via a non-profit called Healing Action. She is the Volunteer & Grant Coordinator there. She loves giving back to her community through this work while learning new skills! Adan is also currently working full time as an AmeriCorps Vista Member via a non-profit called Mission: St. Louis. He is their Communications & Marketing Associate. He is grateful that he is able to do what he loves while obtaining hands on experience. Both Alexandra and Adan love making authentic tacos, playing with Luna, traveling, trying craft beer, photography, and the outdoors. They are incredibly excited to take the next steps in their life with this marriage.
After the wedding (hopefully in 2021) Alexandra and Adan will be going on their honeymoon to Disney World! They are ecstatic to be visiting the Happiest Place on Earth together after saying I do! A few months after they "tie the knot" they will be moving into a bigger and better apartment in St. Louis with their fur baby Luna! They also want to travel all over. Some places that are on their list include Italy, Greece, New Zealand, Netherlands, Japan, and so much more! They want to take the time to enjoy life and see all they can before raising children and more fur babies. Wherever their life takes them they are happy you all are in it and that they are able to share this journey with you as well.
