How We Met

April 2018

Alex's Version: I had been working as a waitress at Wooden Robot Brewery in Charlotte, NC when this tall and handsome guy walked in and came up to our kiosk. He was sat a table not in my section but I quickly asked my co-worker to switch tables so I could have an excuse to talk to him. While I was bussing his table he looked up at me and told if I needed help, he would do "anything." I laughed it off and continued my night. Later on he came up to me again and mentioned that he meant what he said earlier and to just let him know. I took advantage of the opportunity and asked if a number was on that list of anything. He said of course, and we went on to exchange. We kept flirting throughout the night and then had our first date a week later. Jackson's Version: A friend of mine invited me out to a brewery, so I put on my finest Charlotte Hornets baseball jersey and hit the road. When I ordered food at the brewery I thought, "I think this tall blonde is hitting on me a little bit?" When the same tall blonde came to clean the table I had the courage only two IPA's can provide a man and said something so stupid it actually worked. We flirted throughout the night until she could tell I was too nervous to ask for her number and volunteered it to me. The rest is history.

The Proposal

May 5, 2023

Alex's Version: We were getting ready for a big trip to Europe and Jackson had just gotten back from rotation. I'm not going to lie, after 5 years together, I was telling myself he was going to propose during our trip: he knew this. He would only be home a couple of days before we left, and he was being very adamant we go on a hike over the weekend. It was cinco de mayo weekend so plans kept popping up and that just made him more adamant. We moved plans around and on Friday May, 5th we went to this beautiful overlook in Boulder, CO for the sunset. While sitting there, Jackson couldn't sit still, which if you know him, is strange. He didn't even want to engage in silly conversations, which again, strange. Then after a few minutes of this anxious, quiet pacing he looked at me asked "are you ready?" I responded "for a picture? sure." He led me down to a flatter part of this rock we were on and within a few seconds he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I giggled, said yes, and then heard cheers of our good friends who sneakily showed up to capture our moment and pop a bottle of champagne for us! It was perfect. Jackson's Version: I originally planned on doing the proposal during our vacation in Europe, I thought it would be a beautiful surprise. After almost all of her friends made remarks about me doing exactly that, I knew I had to switch it up. I took Alex to an overlook in Boulder to watch the sunset. Once I knew the photographer was in place, I took her to the spot that I was most confident in not dropping the ring off the mountain. In my mind I had a nice speech planned but all I got out was, "Will you marry me?". I was so nervous I started to stand up before I even put the ring on her finger. I was a mess, it was perfect.
