How We Met..

First comes school, then comes marriage

In the fall semester of 2010 at Houston Community College – West Loop campus, Alexandra and Henry (unbeknownst to them) took a psychology course together. The course…Human Sexuality. Oh, the irony! Throughout the semester, the exchange of words they had among each other was little to none—mostly due to shyness. But the very last day, Henry worked up the courage in his ugly Christmas sweater to find out this lovely girl’s name. “So…” with a crack in his voice, “how’d you like the class?” Henry asked Alexandra. “It was okay, I guess,” said Alexandra with a short answer and a beautiful smile on her face. “What’s your name?” Henry asked nervously. “Aleh-xandrrrrrrah Garrrrcia,” she said with her Colombian accent. Henry’s heart fell to the floor! Then, from the background Henry hears, “blah-blah-blah. Blah-blah!—Well, who cares what Henry heard, all you have to know is that he was cock-blocked by some other dude. After the conversation, Henry quickly typed her name in his phone as he walked away to then later Facebook stalker the hell out of her—as one does nowadays, to soon gathering up his courage to send her a friend request. Fast forward over the next year, Henry attended the University of Houston still keeping contact with Alexandra. About this time, Henry was comfortable enough to talk to her without cracking his voice like a pubescent teenage boy but not quite comfortable enough to fart in front of her….yet, but somewhere in between that spectrum of comfortability. Soon Alexandra would come and visit Henry in the UH library and study with him, when one day, Henry locked his car keys in his car. What a dumbass move or an ingenious ploy to see how nice and caring Alexandra really was? She was nice enough to drive Henry to his parent’s house, 30 minutes away, to pick up his second pair of keys and drive him all the way back to the university campus to get his car. Somewhere in this long hour endeavor Alexandra figured that she would give him a chance.

The Proposal!

In September of 2018 Henry went to ask Alexandra’s parents for permission for her hand in marriage—old school hu?! Of course, they said, “Yes!” and her dad saying, “Well, it’s about time.” Fast forward to November, as a surprise graduation gift and a gift for her birthday—not really, they discussed the prospect of taking a trip—they decided to take a trip to a winter wonderland…Canada eh?! Fairmont, Banff, Alberta, Canada—Fancy!! Over a beautiful dinner at the resort Henry got down on one knee and asked Alexandra to marry him, all while the waitress recorded the proposal, but Alexandra ugly-cried so she didn’t post it to her social media. Henry cried a little too—a manly cry, but we’ll keep that between us…eh?
