This Italian deli/shop has the most delicious sandwiches. Get 'The Especiale,' spicy, grab a bag of chips and some beers or your favorite beverage. Then walk one block north to Washington Square Park and have a picnic.

Caffe Trieste

Bring cash, grab an espresso, a cookie and then sit back and people watch.

Tony Nik's CAFE

We went here on our second date! This is a hidden away classic cocktail bar that has been serving drinks North Beach since 1933. Order a Paper Plane and relax.

City Lights Bookstore

Founded in 1953 by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin, City Lights is one of the few truly great independent bookstores in the United States, a place where booklovers from across the country and around the world come to browse and read.

Vesuvio Cafe

Vesuvio is another cultural institution, right across the alley from City Lights Bookstore. The bar was frequented by a number of Beat Generation celebrities including Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. It also happens to be another stop on our infamous second date and close to Michael's old apartment!

Original Joe's

OJ's is an institution! Grab a martini, order a caesar and a side of meatballs or ravioli and scope out the best of North Beach.
