At the very end of spring in 2023, Matt and I had been living the single life, swiping away. I had just been canceled on by yet another Bumble date. Not wanting to 'waste' the night I decided to go across the street to the new Scottish pub and standing behind the bar was Matthew. Luckily for me the bar was mostly empty and we were able to talk a majority of the night. Hours went by and we talked about our shared love of musical theater, how we are both NYC transplants and about his daughter Sophia and my love of children and the work I do with them. We talked about how dating in the city sucks and there's so many rules when it comes to dating apps. I even went through his profile and gave him advice on how to make it better. He is very vocal that he never intended on taking any of it because he knew he'd never need those apps again. Once I paid my tab I noticed Matt wrote his number down on a scrap of paper and had it tucked between his fingers waiting for an opportunity to pass it to me. We were both listening to a very long story from one of the regulars at the bar and I had to leave. I asked Matt if that was intended for me and walked out the door (completely ruining his very smooth pick up line). A full 7 days later I sent a very short text to him saying "Hey, You working tonight?" When he said yes I replied back "Great see you there ;)" And the rest is history. We did several across the bar dinner dates while Matt worked. Then, I met Sophia and he met PJ. I moved in in March 2024 and he proposed in July at the Bronx Zoo after an incredible private giraffe feeding experience. We are so excited to be celebrating with all of you!
